Selenium

Selenium is an important trace mineral, and as an "essential" nutrient, your body does not produce selenium on its own. Therefore, it must come from diet or supplementation. Low levels of selenium can have an adverse impact on the heart, joints, eyes, and the immune, endocrine, and reproductive systems.*

Maintaining an optimal selenium level supports normal cell function and differentiation, and healthy heart, connective tissue, eye, liver, and thyroid function.* Selenium is a great mineral to help preserve a healthier body and support healthy living.*

Thorne’s Selenium uses the purest form of selenium – bound to methionine for optimal absorption – without adding unnecessary additives or preservatives.

Benefits of Thorne's Selenium:

Support for Thyroid Health*

Selenium supports normal thyroid function in healthy individuals and is important for the proper functioning of the thyroid gland.* It is also necessary for converting the thyroid hormone T4 (thyroxine) to the active T3 form (triiodothyronine).* Healthy thyroid function benefits energy levels, metabolism, mood, and healthy hair and skin.*

Supporting Healthy Aging*

Selenium benefits powerful antioxidant functions in your body by supporting the glutathione and superoxide dismutase systems.* Antioxidants like selenium help reduce oxidative damage in the body and brain caused by excess free radicals from environmental toxins, smoking, alcohol use, and stress, while supporting healthy skin, hair, and cognitive function.*

Promoting Optimal Immune Function*

Selenium plays an important role in the body’s immune health.* Its antioxidant properties support a healthy inflammatory response and promote optimal immune function.* Studies have shown that an optimal selenium level is associated with a healthy immune response.*

Heavy Metal Protection*

Selenium supplementation also might exert a protective effect against mercury, cadmium, and other toxic heavy metals.*
